Eating can cause significant fear and anxiety for clients with eating disorders, particularly eating trigger/fear foods or eating in certain environments such as restaurants. Julie Knopp offers meal support to clients by eating meals or trigger foods with them, whether out at a restaurant or in the comfort of her office. These food exposures can be an important time of recreating the client’s relationship with the food and environment.
Meal support also gives the client emotional support and structure around eating that can gradually lead to more normalized eating behaviors. Julie will plan ahead with clients for each food exposure and provide nutrition therapy to help prepare clients to feel ready for each meal/food exposure.
